When does the swim season begin? A- The actual season begins in late February however high school practice begins in January when the 2nd semester begin.
Q- How many events may a swimmer enter in a swim meet? A- A swimmer may be entered in a maximum of two individual and two ready events or three relays and one individual
Q- How are swimmers transported to meets? A- At this time for meets that are out of the valley swimmers are transported by bus. If students wish to ride home from an out of town meet with their parents a release form just be filled out 24 hours in advance and turned into the coach. All meets at SCAC only have a bus one way. All swimmers must be picked up at SCAC after the meet.
Q- How do swimmers earn a varsity letter? A- Swimmers must swim and score points in at least one meet.
Q- What other responsibilities do the parents have to the swim team? A- Make sure your swimmers are at practice. Help with meet set up, take down, and timing Help with other activities if possible
Q- What to wear on meet days? A- Swimmers should where team shirts to school on day of meets.
Q- What time to do meets start? A- Meet times vary so please refer to schedule.
Q- Where do I find the forms for my swimmer? A- All forms are available on this website and at www.valenciavikings.com under athletics. Q- Do I need a physical? A- Yes
Q- How are meets scored? A- Dual Meet scoring, Relays-1st=8pts, 2nd=4pt, 3rd=2pts and Individual races 1st=6pts, 2nd=4, 3rd=3pts, 4th=2pts, 5th=1pt
Q- Why do we have to Fund-raise? A- Fund-raising is needed to get equipment, pay fees, and run the swim team on everyday expenses.
Q- How does the team raise funds? A- We raise moneys in a variety of ways (1) Restaurant nights (2) Raffles (3) Clothing sales.
Q- What are the academic requirements to be on the team? A- In order to compete and travel with the team a swimmer must have at least a 2.5
Q- Is there practice over Spring Break? A- Yes. Times will be given as soon as we know.
Q- Can a team member still swim in a meet if they do not attend school on the day of the meet? A- A student must attend school all day in order to swim in a meet. If there is some reason that a swimmer has to miss a class the absence must be cleared with the principal and athletic administrator in advance.
